Wye Oak Recognition

| Return to: Forestry Board Homepage |
In April of 1988 the Howard County Forest
Conservancy Board and the Howard County Committee
for the Bicentennial of the Constitution of the United States
presented a Wye Oak seedling to the citizens of Howard County.
Today the Wye Oak seedling has grown outside the County Office Building to a mature tree.
On Family Day, April 2004, Howard County celebrated this tree with a formal recognition and the presentation of a plaque identifying the occasion.
Steve Parker, the chairman of the Howard County Forestry Board, took this occasion to present the Tree City USA award from the Arbor Day Foundation to Jim Robey and the County citizens.
Jim Robey, the Howard County Executive, accepted the award on behalf of the citizens.
The sign commemorating the original gift was placed at the base of the Wye Oak to remind visitors of the event, and to ensure that this particular tree is honored.
