Howard Community College has a wide assortment of trees that the college is inventorying over the next 2 years. The original farm house for the property was located near the Athletic Center, off Hickory Ridge Road. There is a hill behind the Athletic Center with several large trees that were planted by the homestead. The largest is a beautiful American Beech Fagus Grandifolia that is over 200 years old. It is commemorated with a plaque. That plaque saved the trees life during college construction. The Forestry Board will be working with the college to add interpretive signs for about 20 trees located on this hill.
