Volunteers plant 230 trees on Marshalee Drive Extension.
"Volunteers planted 230 new trees Oct. 29 along the newest road extension of Marshalee Drive in Elkridge. More than 70 people helped dig the holes, plant the trees, spread mulch and pick up trash in the half-mile stretch of road that runs through the 10th and fourth tees on the Timbers of Troy golf course. "Terry Galloway, of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources organized the project. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources' Gift of Trees program donated many of the trees.
"Sonsors included the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forestry Service, Winchester Homes, Howard County Forest Conservancy District Board, Treemendous Maryland, Howard County Department of Public Works, Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks, Friends of the Patapsco Valley and Heritage Greenway, Howard Community College Environmental Science students and the Maryland Outdoor Club.
"Trees included dogwoods, redbuds, oaks, maples, poplars, sycamores,
black tupelo and river birches. Button bush and juniper bushes were
also planted." [Baltimore Sun: 11.27.2005]
